Pack and unpack files.

#tar

Pack and unpack tar files

Syntaxtar [options] archive [files]
  • tar -czvf backup.tar.gz DataCMD

    Create a compressed archive (tar ships with Windows 10 and 11)

  • tar -xzvf backup.tar.gzCMD

    Extract it

  • tar -tf backup.tar.gzCMD

    List the contents

#Compress-Archive / Expand-Archive

Zip files

SyntaxCompress-Archive -Path ... -DestinationPath ...
  • Compress-Archive -Path Data -DestinationPath data.zipPowerShell

    Create a zip

  • Expand-Archive data.zip -DestinationPath C:\RestorePowerShell

    Unzip into a folder

#expand / makecab

Cabinet files

Syntaxexpand file.cab -F:* folder
  • expand archive.cab -F:* C:\outCMD

    Extract a .cab file

  • makecab file.txt file.cabCMD

    Make a .cab file

#certutil / Get-FileHash

Check a download

Syntaxcertutil -hashfile file algorithm
  • certutil -hashfile file.zip SHA256CMD

    Check a download's SHA-256

  • Get-FileHash file.zipPowerShell
